Sudanese Medics Say RSF Forces Thousands to Flee, Destroyed Hospital
The Sudan Doctors Network, an independent medical organization, said RSF fighters entered the town of Al-Kurmuk following intense clashes, looting medical facilities and demolishing the town’s main hospital.
In a statement, the group reported that medical equipment and supplies were stolen, and health personnel were attacked during the raid, leaving one staff member in critical condition.
The network added that the violence forced over 3,000 residents, including women and children, to flee Al-Kurmuk, moving toward the state capital Ad-Damazin and nearby areas across the Ethiopian border. It attributed the alleged systematic destruction and looting to RSF commanders, though the paramilitary group has not yet responded to the claims.
Separately, Blue Nile Governor Ahmed Al-Omda Badi said the situation in the state remains stable, including along the borders with Ethiopia and South Sudan. The state-run Sudan News Agency (SUNA) quoted Badi as saying that developments are anticipated soon that could allow residents to return home.
On Monday, Sudanese authorities said the army repelled attacks by RSF fighters and allied Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) forces on Al-Kurmuk and nearby southern areas.
Since April 2023, clashes between the Sudanese army and RSF have erupted over plans to integrate the paramilitary force into the national military. The conflict has created one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises, leaving tens of thousands dead and nearly 13 million displaced.
